Elsa Patton underwent a dramatic plastic surgery journey: Inside the procedures

Most individuals will go to considerable lengths to improve their appearance, which is why plastic surgery has become so popular around the world.

Unfortunately, these surgeries are not always successful, causing permanent injury and deformity of the face. Elsa Patton, a well-known reality star from the show “The Real Housewives of Miami,” was one such example. She only appeared on the show for two years, from 2011 to 2013, yet that was enough to propel her to celebrity status. Her one-liners and upbeat nature made her a popular character.

Elsa Patton had several surgeries done at the same time that rendered her so unrecognizable that a plastic surgeon in Tampa, Florida, called it out, stating that there was “no worse case” of plastic surgery gone wrong than hers.

Before Elsa Patton’s entrance on the show, not much was known about her. According to Ancestry.com, she was born on August 25, 1936, in Cuba. Before Donald Patton passed away in 2018, more than a year before Elsa also passed away, she was wed to him for more than 50 years.

“Mama Elsa” and Donald have two children together: daughter Marysol Patton, who appeared on “The Real Housewives of Miami” alongside her mother and subsequently in the reboot, and son Thomas Anthony Jones.

Marysol told Reality Tea about her mother: “Growing up, my mother always had so many people who wanted to be around her; a lot of celebrities, a lot of extremely significant people wanting to be friends with my mother.

“Everyone was always fascinated by her so this doesn’t seem any different than how it’s always been.”

Marysol went on to say, “It’s a little different when we go out on the streets because strangers are approaching us, staring, pointing, or taking pictures, so that’s a little different.” But she enjoys it immensely.”

Elsa’s spin-off show, Havana Elsa, premiered in 2012 and chronicled her journey to create her coffee company. “I enjoy Cuban coffee… And now I’m going to have my own coffee, which will be excellent, to my taste, and will also make me money,” she remarked at the time, according to the Huffington Post.

It was clear that she had undergone numerous plastic procedures, yet she never discussed them openly. She addressed her surgeon as “the man who ruined my face.” Her daughter, Maryson, disclosed more information regarding Elsa’s procedures, stating that her mother had her eyelids done in the 1980s, resulting in hematomas on her eyes for nearly three years.

Facial Plastic Surgeon Benjamin C. Stong of Kalos Facial Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, Georgia, stated that it is “almost impossible to imagine” what she looked like before her procedures. Another expert, Dr. Farrior, a double-board certified surgeon in Tampa, Florida, called Elsa’s facial condition a “tragedy” of judgment, ethics, and technique.

“The chances are that she did not do it to herself, but was able to persuade someone to do it to her. “That is where it should have stopped,” Dr. Farrior wrote, adding that the surgeon in question was responsible for refusing further operation.

“The real mistake was the choice she made for a provider because they did not say NO,” he went on to say.

Elsa suffered a stroke in 2013, just days before the reality show’s third season began filming. Her health deteriorated throughout months and years, and she died on May 13, 2019, following “a long illness.” Elsa was 84 at the time of her death.

In 2021, Marysol married Steve McNamara, the president of a construction company in Florida, as a tribute to her mother. A shaman officiated her Mayan wedding ceremony. A source told Page Six, “It was the foundation of her mom’s spiritual-religious roots.” “Elsa is still in charge! She felt her mom’s influence guided her to have this kind of ceremony!”

Andy Cohen, the creator and executive producer of the Real Housewives franchise, paid a moving homage to Elsa on his show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “Throughout the history of the Real Housewives, we have met many friends and relatives of the wives, but rarely has someone’s spirit, humor, and wisdom made such an indelible impression as Elsa’s did,” Cohen said in a statement.
