The romance between Sir Anthony Hopkins and his 18-year-younger wife Stella Arroyave
Every character that the legendary Sir Anthony Hopkins has ever played is iconic in its own special manner. His audience can sense his acting enthusiasm, which elevates him to the status of one of the finest performers to have ever graced the planet.
Among the many diverse characters, he has done over the years, Hannibal Lecter is perhaps one of the most well-known and influential. He won an Academy Award for it, and his career took off as a result.
In an interview with Variety, Anthony Hopkins remembered the time he was asked to be a part of The Silence of the Lambs:
“I’m ecstatic that the movie was successful. I’m honored to participate. My agent, Jeremy Conway, called me while I was in a London theatre and said, “I’m sending a script over to the theatre called The Silence of the Lambs.”
I asked if it was a children’s story. I had no idea. No, he replied. It involves Jodie Foster. I uttered “Oh.”
Actually, I believe Jodie just won the Oscar for The Accused. I so went to the changing room and began reading it. I finished around 10 pages. I thought, “Ooh, that’s it,” he said, “when FBI agent Crawford stated, “You don’t want Hannibal Lecter inside your skull. I asked, “Is this an offer? ” When I called my agent. The best portion I could ever write is this. Well, it’s not a large part, he replied. I responded, “I don’t care.”
Anthony Hopkins received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime accomplishment from the Golden Globes in 2006, and he also won the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for the movie The Father in 2021.
Hopkins has a private history that includes three marriages. In 1966, he married actress Petronella Barker, and the couple welcomed their daughter Abigail, Hopkin’s sole child, two years later. He hasn’t spoken to his daughter in more than 20 years, though, and they don’t get along.
“I gave it my assent years ago. He stated of his daughter, “It’s her life and she has to live it.
“I advise young people to move away if their parents are causing them problems. Let go is a must. If your parents are preventing you from moving on, just do it without killing them.
A year after divorcing his first spouse, Hopkins wed Jennifer Lynton in 1973. He married Stella Arroyave, who is 18 years younger than him, a year after they officially divorced after being together for almost 30 years.
Their initial meeting happened by accident. She had an antique store, and he had just happened to come over looking for furniture. He instead discovered love.
Stella Arroyave was born and raised in New York, but she later relocated to California to become an actor. She gave up on her dream because she wasn’t fortunate enough to land a job in Hollywood at the time. That changed completely when she met Hopkins. Stella had the chance to co-star with him and Nicole Kidman in The Human Stain and other movies, and she is now a well-known director and screenwriter.
“I studied writing, directing, and filming extensively at UCLA. I made a few music videos,” Stella Arroyave said to Yahoo. “When I got married to Tony, I made the movie Slipstream in 2007. I’ve always desired to write, direct, and produce. It was something I studied and nourished.
In 2020, she made her directing debut with the movie Elyse, which starred her husband.
Stella praised Hopkins as a consummate professional in a Variety interview about their collaboration. He treated the set, me, and the actors the same way he would any other movie set. He requested my opinion after asking me what I thought, and we had some fruitful discussions.
Stella Arroyave mentioned that she chatted with Hopkin’s grammar school teacher before the movie and learned some intriguing information about the actor.
Anthony Hopkins was a loner, thus he claimed that out of all the kids in the school, he never would have predicted that he would succeed to this degree.
“The only thing he could tell was that he enjoyed playing the piano and painting. It reaffirmed Tony’s reputation as a reclusive individual who values alone. But he is brilliant.
His primary interests are art, music, movies, and theatre. He is being himself completely and pursuing his passions, she continued. “I believe you understand,”
Anthony Hopkins has contributed greatly to the cinema industry. He was knighted in 1993 by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the arts.
