Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe’s, who played precious, rise to stardom

You can call it luck, or you can call it hard work and determination, and actress Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe, like most Hollywood celebrities, may have needed both when she auditioned for the role of Precious, which earned her the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead, as well as Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for Best Actress.

Gabby’s road to Hollywood looked like this.

She was born on May 6, 1983, in Brooklyn, New York, to a street performer mother and a cab driver father.

Gabby expressed an early desire in being a comedian, drawing inspiration from actress Mo’Nique. Gabby, in fact, aspired to be just like her, never expecting to play alongside her in the future.

“I always thought she was really funny, but she’s also very confident in the way she looks, and that’s what I prayed about,” she told the New York Times. “At that time in my life, I wanted to be everybody else, but I wanted to want to be Gabby.”

Gabby studied psychology at Mercy College and worked part-time as a receptionist to help pay for her education.

Then one day, a friend called to tell her there was an audition for Lee Daniels’ upcoming film Precious. Gabby was familiar with the character since she had read the book on which the film was based, Push: A Novel. Gabby took the book in her hands and went to chase her passion, despite having no prior experience of the kind. There were roughly 300 women who auditioned for the job, but Gabby was the right fit from the start, and Lee Daniels recognized it.

“She’s way, way smarter than me, and most of the actors I’ve worked with,” Daniels told the New York Times. “I love her with all my soul.”

“I have to be really protective of her because she’s baring me her soul,” he said. “A lot of her truth is in her.”

The film was a big success, and all eyes were now on Gabourey Sidibe.

Her name became well-known in Hollywood, and everyone agreed that what she demonstrated on screen was magnificent and remarkable. Her outstanding performance catapulted her into the national cinematic conversation, earning her the ‘New Hollywood’ prize at the Hollywood Film Awards and the ‘Virtuosos prize’ at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

Gabby later discussed her career, saying that while it is common for Oscar nominees to rise to the top of Hollywood, this was not the case for her. “However, I work extremely hard. I work quite hard. “No, the Hollywood seas did not part for me in the same way that they might have for Anna Kendrick, who was nominated for the first time that year as well and then went on to star in films and television and everything,” she added. “The seas did not part that same way for me and I believe there are a few factors that made that so, but I am still working 10 years later.”

In recent years, “Precious” has appeared in the films yelling to the Sky, The Big C, American Horror Story, and the Fox musical drama series Empire.

Gabby is reluctant to discuss her weight, but she told Oprah Winfrey in 2009, “It’s something I’ve had to work at.” “My first diet began when I was six years old,” she said, adding, “I’ve never been a small girl.” “One day, I had to sit down with myself and decide that I loved myself regardless of how my body looked or what other people thought about it.”

The 37-year-old actress wrote her book this is Just My Face: Try Not to stare three years ago, in which she discussed her panic attacks and despair, as well as how her mother never took her condition seriously.

“When I was upset about something, she told me to ‘get a thicker skin.'” When I became agitated, she instructed me to ‘stop nitpicking.’ “My mom has always believed that things would be fine, but saying ‘tomorrow will be a better day’ wasn’t enough for me,” Gabby explained to People.

She is quite happy with her partner, marketing specialist Brandon Frankel. The two frequently post adorable photos of themselves on Instagram, such as the one below, in which Frankel refers to his girlfriend as his queen and writes, “You’re a ball of sunshine, so generous and giving of your time and love- and your excitement and passion for life and people/things you love truly lights up my heart.” You’ve taught me so much about life, myself, and the world that I can’t thank you enough. You encourage me to be a better version of myself, even if you probably aren’t aware of it. I love you more and more every day, which seems impossible but never ceases to astound me.”

Gabby regularly posts images from the gym, and people compliment her on her dedication. She is a true inspiration and a beautiful person.
