Spain welcomed a new king in 2014. After King Juan Carlos abdicated due to several scandals, Prince Felipe ascended to the throne. The previous leader was embroiled in a corruption inquiry, which severely damaged his reputation. Soon after, in 2012, he travelled to Botswana to go elephant hunting, which infuriated Spanish people. King Juan Carlos made the decision to abdicate in 2014 and hand the monarchy over to Prince Felipe.

Felipe became the ruler of a monarchy despite having two older sisters since at the time monarchy was passed down through the male line. The law has since been amended, making the older daughter of King Felipe the clear successor.

Even though King Felipe is incredibly well-liked in his own country, he reportedly contemplated abdicating the throne in the name of love.

In 1984 and 1985, he attended the Lakefield College School in Ontario, Canada, to complete his studies. He had completed three years of military training in Spain’s armed forces academy before returning home. Following this education, King Felipe graduated from law school in Madrid and later went on to Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he received a master’s degree in international relations.

Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, his future wife, was a journalist at the time he was carrying out all of these activities. She graduated from the Institute for Audiovisual Journalism Studies with a master’s degree in audiovisual journalism after receiving her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid. Letizia rose to fame as a well-known and adored figure in Spain. She served as the program’s anchor every evening and even covered the 2000 US presidential election.

She was already well established in her field when she first met the future king.

Felipe apparently wanted to see Letizia in person, and he was able to connect with her via a common journalist buddy. She then provided him her phone number, but it took them a few months before they began dating.

They initially kept their romance a secret, but after being seen together while on holiday in Felipe’s royal palace in Mallorca, the world became aware of their relationship.

They declared their engagement in 2003.

However, there were rumours that Felipe’s father didn’t approve of the union. Letizia was divorced and not of royal descent. At the time, sources claimed Juan Carlos referred to his future daughter-in-law as “the enemy within.” He advised his son to give the engagement a year’s worth of thought before making the decision.

Contrarily, Felipe was adamant about being married to Letizia under whatever circumstances.

According to a member of another Royal family, “Felipe went to his father to ask permission to marry with a letter renouncing his right to the throne in his pocket,” as reported by Vanity Fair.

He was given the letter when his father advised him to wait a year or so to be sure she was truly the appropriate girl.

Juan Carlos was told by Felipe’s mother, “You have no choice. The monarchy will be abolished if you don’t consent.

Leonor and Sophia, the adorable daughters of King Felipe and Queen Letizia, were born into the world.

The family makes an effort to live normally. Queen Letizia is committed to assisting children in Spain with their education while the king devotes his entire attention to serving the people as well as he can. She also provides assistance to kids with uncommon disorders.

This family is adored by the locals due to their modest demeanors and propensity for leading routine lives.
