To “make everyone aware,” a Canadian mother posts a photo of her son on Facebook.

One distraught mother who tragically lost her son is warning the public about the risks of opiate usage.

Sherri Kent revealed in a heartfelt Facebook post that her son Michael, 22, overdosed on prescribed opioids. He ingested a lethal quantity of fentanyl, a substance that is 50–100 times more potent than morphine.

“I just want everyone to know that my son Michael overdosed on fentanyl,” the distraught mother wrote. “My son was not an addict; he made a mistake that cost him his life.”

Sherri posted a picture of Michael in his hospital bed, with an intubation and likely asleep, while she is holding him in her arms, along with the warning.

On March 21, Michael Kent passed away.

As reported by CBC, Michael’s mother claims that while running errands with his sister, they came across an unidentified man who offered them narcotics. This took place the day before the catastrophe. Michael’s sister advised him not to take the drugs, but the next day, he met with the man. He purchased the narcotics and used them in the store’s lavatory before overdosing.

According to Sherri, by the time the ambulance arrived, he had already gone into cardiac arrest.

When Michael was taken to the hospital, he later passed away.

It was the worst days of my life, Sherri assured everyone.

The Huffington Post reports that “deaths from opioid overdoses have increased substantially in recent years, in part because of a particularly deadly narcotic called fentanyl. The usage of fentanyl appears to be increasing in the United States despite being 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine.

According to CBC, fentanyl overdoses are also on the rise in Canada, particularly in the region where Michael lived.

In her message, Sherri said, “I just want to make everyone aware of the epidemic going on right now that’s killing 5-7 people a day in every city in Canada.” It’s out of control, and there is no other way to safeguard our kids than to inform them about the risks associated with modern drug usage.

The mother added, “They made me a spot on the bed where I could lay with my son and talk to him.” I assured him I was still proud of him at this point.

Sherri’s heartfelt and moving message gained a lot of attention. She is grateful that hundreds of individuals were reached by the condolences and prayers, since it implies she contributed to raising awareness.

We are deeply sorry for this mother’s loss and grateful that she shared the tale of her son because it may have prevented a few overdoses on this harmful substance.

Rest in peace, Michael.
