Prince Philip gave Meghan Markle a nasty nickname.
We are well aware that the relationship between members of the British royal family has always been complicated. This family, which is among the most well-known and influential, has faced several challenges throughout the years.
As Meghan Markle was welcomed into the family, opinions on Prince Harry’s relationship choices varied. Many people believed Meghan was an unsuitable match for the beloved Prince since she was divorced, but the royal family embraced her warmly. Years after the couple married, a royal analyst disclosed the nickname that the late Prince Philip gave Harry’s bride, and it’s not a nice one.
The nickname referred to Meghan’s similarities to Wallis Simpson, the divisive wife of previous King Edward VIII, who was also American and divorced when she joined the royal family. Prince Philip supposedly had a poor view of Meghan Markle, which was kept hidden until a book detailing personal knowledge of the royal family was published.
Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee, ascended to become the Duchess of Windsor. When King Edward VIII abdicated the throne in December 1936, barely a year into his reign, to marry her, she became one of the most divisive royal figures in modern history. Royals were not permitted to marry divorced persons at the time, and this taboo lasted until 2002, three years before Prince Charles and Camilla married.
According to Vogue, because to concerns about public disturbance following their marriage, King Edward and Wallis Simpson were not permitted to return to Britain without the consent of his brother, the newly crowned King George VI.
There were several controversies throughout the couple’s years of exile. Among the others, they were seen visiting Nazi Germany at the time and seeing Adolf Hitler while performing the famed Nazi salute.
In an interview with GB News, royal author Ingrid Seward said that Prince Philip believed Meghan Markle and Wallis Simpson had many similarities.
As a result, he gave his grandson’s bride a name. “I believe Prince Philip was very perceptive about people and he frequently tried to see the positive aspects of them rather than just the negative,” Seward told the audience.
He referred to her as the Duchess of Windsor because he saw connections between Meghan and Harry, Edward and Ms. Simpson. “He used to call her DOW, but not in front of her,” she explained. The Duke of Edinburgh was “cautious” about the former Suits actress and her potential impact on the royal family, according to Seward’s book “My Mother and I.”
The Sussexes left Britain and resigned from their royal positions. They wanted to live away from the spotlight and media, so they relocated to sunny California.
However, after leaving Harry’s family, the two decided to do several interviews, create a documentary, and Harry authored a book titled Spare in which he revealed a great deal of information about the Firm members.
According to the Daily Express, Harry is set to visit the UK to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which will feature a liturgy at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8. Meghan will not be accompanying him. She is expected to stay in the United States due to safety concerns and a wish to avoid raising controversy.
