While working at a Dollar Tree, a newlywed was killed by a man holding a machete.
Keris Riebel, a 22-year-old newlywed, was brutally murdered by a guy wielding a machete in the Dollar Tree store in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, where she worked.
The terrible occurrence occurred around 4:25 p.m. at the shop at 1120 Wyandot Ave., according to authorities.
Riebel was pronounced dead at the scene by police officers and an ambulance.
The assailant, later identified as Bethel Bekele, 27, was apprehended in the 100 block of South Fifth Street, where he was sitting in a parked car near the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office. He was eventually charged with murder.
The motive for the murder remains unknown.
It is also unknown whether the perpetrator and the victim knew each other previously or if she was simply in the wrong location at the wrong time.
The entire village is in grief at the death of a young woman who had recently married the love of her life.
“It’s terrible to see something like this in Upper Sandusky, because it’s such a wonderful place,” one neighborhood resident remarked.
During these trying times for the family and Riebel’s husband, who has taken time off work to grieve, the victim’s aunt established a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses.
Riebel was a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources student with big plans. She and her husband had just recently married and were looking forward to acquiring a pet and establishing a family, but it was all taken away in the blink of an eye.
Wynford Local Schools hailed Riebel as a “wonderful spirit with a faith-filled heart” when she graduated in 2019. She usually wore a gorgeous smile and exuded enthusiasm and positivity. Definitely one of a kind.
“The death of such a brilliant and promising young woman is extremely tragic, and our hearts go out to her husband, loved ones, and family members during this difficult time,” according to the GoFundMe.
Rest in peace, lovely soul. We hope that justice is served and that the killer is sentenced to many years in prison.
