In the year 2015 , Doherty came to know about her breast cancer after being acknowledged of a lump in her breast. She had to go through harmone therapy for some duration later coming in contact with chemotherapy, single mastectomy, and radiation.

Her cancer left her body in 2017 unfortunately later it aroused again Feb 2020 when she was at stage 4 of breast cancer . It also reached to many other parts of her body as well.

The stages of breast cancer vary from 0 to 4, with higher numbers showing a more worse replicacy about how fast the cancerous cells have grown other than the original cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society, 150,000 + breast cancer survivors in American are living with metastatic breast cancer.

Being a fact that metastatic breast cancer is not always curable, its been discovered that because of technological advancements the lifespan of those diagnosed with the disease has increased immensely .

Doherty appeared in two TV movies, last year , List of a Lifetime and Dying to Belong, to help him get through these difficult years of cancer treatments.

Through social media usage the actress has discuss many aspects of her cancer struggle, including her chemotherapy experiences, throughout the suffering years.

Last year in Oct, she also shared with her readers in a post about her hardships curing breast cancer: “I had several nose bleeds from the chemo.”

I’m not sure whether any of you have had this experience. I was also exhausted. I made myself feel better by putting on some amusing pajamas that my friend Kristy had given me.

Did they genuinely make me feel better? Yes!! Lol. I looked stupid, and I was able to laugh at myself because of it. Laughter helped me get through what seemed impossible. I think we can all laugh at the impossible.”
