According to reports, Michael Douglas and other Kirk Douglas’ children did not inherit a single penny from their father
Kirk Douglas passed away in 2020 at the age of 103. He will be remembered as a legendary actor forever. He amassed a large fortune before his death, and sadly, none of his children received a single penny from his fortune.
Kirk Douglas was born on December 9, 1916, in Amsterdam, New York. He changed his name from Issur Danielovitch to Kirk Douglas because he believed it would help his career. His parents were Russian immigrants, and he was the only son in a family of seven children.
Because his father was Jewish and was not permitted to work in the mills, the family was impoverished.
Mr. Douglas wrote in his best-selling autobiography, “Even on Eagle Street, in the poor people section of town, where all the families were having problems, the ragman was on the lowest rung on the ladder.” “And I was the son of a ragman.”
Kirk discovered his love of drama in high school. His teacher encouraged him and later introduced him to poetry.
“I would’ve been run out of town if I had ever accepted to liking poetry or spoken out loud, ‘I want to be a great actor,'” Douglas recalled. Because of her, I requested college and drama school catalogues and saved every penny in order to attend.”
“When Mrs. Livingston entered the classroom, she was cool and detached. She never raised her soft-spoken voice. Only when she read poetry did she feel anything. She assumed I was fantastic. She supported and encouraged me after school. “What a gleam in her eyes as she read poem after poem with me by her side.”
Douglas landed his first Broadway role in 1941 and went on to land several more.
Kirk Douglas made his breakthrough in 1949 as boxer Midge Kelly in the film Boxer, and the rest is history.
He married Diana Dill, an actress and model, and they had two children, Joel and Michael Douglas.
He married Anne Buydens three years later and had two children, Peter and Eric Douglas.
They first met while filming in Paris, and Anne was not interested in him at the time.
All of Kirk’s sons became actors in films, with Michael being the most successful, and their relationship was strained.
Kirk’s final film role was in 2008, just before his death.
He is estimated to be worth over $61 million, and instead of leaving his fortune to his sons, he donated it to other causes such as The Sinai Temple of Westwood, the Kirk Douglas Theatre, and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, as well as $50 million to St. Lawrence University, where he attended in his youth.
Michael Douglas did not receive any compensation, but he probably won’t need it given his net worth of over $300 million.
“Kirk’s life was well-lived,” Michael Douglas said in a statement, “and he leaves a legacy in movie that will endure for generations to come, as well as a background as a renowned philanthropist who worked to help the public and bring peace to the world.”
May his soul rest in peace.
