Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly left the United States for good following Trump’s victory.
Ellen DeGeneres looks to have waved farewell to America for good. The beloved former talk show presenter and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, are reportedly selling their Montecito, California mansion. According to sources like The Wrap and TMZ, their resignation is linked to Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss of her presidential bid.
According to The Wrap, Ellen has relocated to the scenic Cotswolds region of the United Kingdom. This move is unsurprising given Ellen’s words in her 2024 Netflix special, in which she honestly addressed feeling “kicked out of show business” after being accused of bullying and establishing a “toxic work environment” on her daytime program.
She went on to explain that she once felt like “the most hated person in America.”
Notably, Ellen isn’t the first star to depart the United States. Actress Eva Longoria, famed for her roles on American television, has also migrated, citing changes in the Californian lifestyle as a major motivation for her decision . Longoria has been open about her reasons for leaving, stating that after spending much of her adult life in California, recent developments such as increased homelessness and tax increases made her believe it was time for a fresh start. She and her family now split their time between Mexico and Spain.
The COVID-19 epidemic also affected Longoria’s decision. During her interview with Marie Claire, she described California as a place that had fundamentally altered, and she felt it was now time to leave.
Eva Longoria stated that the results of the presidential election strengthened her choice to relocate. She went on: “I am privileged enough to be able to move, and I feel for those who cannot leave what I’ve come to view as a dystopian environment.” Ellen DeGeneres and Eva Longoria were strong supporters of Kamala Harris. DeGeneres even officially praised Harris when she was chosen to succeed Joe Biden, and she helped Harris’ campaign.
