Utah father and daughter killed in strange crash; vehicle smashed by a bulldozer that flies off a tow truck.

A flying bulldozer struck the pickup truck of a Utah man and his 16-year-old daughter in Ogden Canyon, killing them both. Richard Hendrickson, CEO of Lifetime Products, is alleged to have been driving with his wife and three children when a tow truck traveling in the opposite direction lost control of the small bulldozer it was pulling, causing the family’s vehicle to crash.

Hendrickson and his daughter, Sally, were killed there. The remaining travelers made it out safely. On Saturday, July 6, the family was driving up a narrow, two-lane road in Ogden Canyon, located in eastern Weber County, Utah, when the tragic incident occurred.

According to the Department of Public Safety, around 12:49 p.m., the tow truck carrying heavy machinery attempted to turn east.

The “bulldozer broke free” from the tow truck and collided with Hendrickson’s westbound GMC pickup, which was towing a boat as it “negotiated a right-hand curve.” Minor injuries were treated for the remaining passengers.

As condolences came in, family and friends described Hendrickson as a “visionary” and a “trusted and cherished” individual. We regret to inform you that our President and CEO, Richard David Hendrickson, died unexpectedly and tragically.

Lifetime Products issues a statement that reads, “This tragic incident also claimed the life of one of his daughters, Sally.” The statement goes on to add of the man, “He was more than a company leader; he was a visionary and a friend to many within our business and the wider community.”

Barry Mower, the organization’s founder, wrote the comment “He was one of my most trusted and cherished friends and will be sorely missed”. In a letter to the family on X, Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated, “Richard was a friend and incredible leader.” We are grieved by his premature death, which occurred alongside that of his daughter, Sally. We hope that the surviving members of his family find comfort and healing as we mourn alongside them.

Many people were interested in Governor Cox’s position. “Praying for Richard’s family, this is absolutely senseless,” one user added. Governor Cox, you and your government must take action to establish strict standards and strong fines on unsafe loads.

Following the disaster, a petition was launched to prohibit larger vehicles from using the narrow “two-lane passageway,” which is flanked on one side by the Ogden River and on the other by precipitous mountain cliffs.

The petition had about 3,300 signatures as of Tuesday; the objective is 5,000. The petition seeks to impose limitations on the kind of vehicles permitted to travel on Highway 39, which runs through the heart of Ogden Canyon.
