Shannen Doherty, star of ‘Beverly Hills 90210’, dies at 53.

Shannen Doherty, the Beverly Hills star, died at 53 after a nine-year fight with breast cancer.

“With a sorrowful heart, I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” her publicist, Leslie Sloane, told People. “The beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones, including her dog, Bowie. “The family requests seclusion at this time so that they can grieve in peace,” Sloane added.

Doherty had openly discussed her battle with breast cancer, revealing in 2015 that she was undergoing treatment. By 2023, she had undergone surgery to remove a brain tumour, which revealed that the cancer had spread to her bones. The actress, well known for her performance in the film Heathers, rose to prominence on 90210 as Brenda, an honor roll student from Minnesota attempting to fit in with her wealthy classmates.

Speaking about her illness, Doherty told People in November 2023, “I’m not done living. I’m not through with loving. I haven’t finished creating yet. I’m not done hoping to change things for the better. I’m just not finished.”

Despite her difficulties, she remained determined to continue working. “People assume that implies you can’t walk, eat, or work. They send you out to pasture at a young age, saying, ‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ but we’re not,” she remarked, adding, “We’re energetic, and we have such a different perspective on life. We are folks that want to work, enjoy life, and move forward.”

Doherty remained a symbol of perseverance and bravery.

Before her death, the charmed star hoped to raise awareness and cash for cancer research, demonstrating that people with terminal cancer, like herself, still have a lot to offer.

“When you question yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I develop cancer?, followed by “Why did my cancer come back?” “The question ‘Why am I at stage 4?’ encourages you to seek a greater purpose in life,” she explained.

Doherty maintained a consistent career and even dabbled in reality television with the short-lived show Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty and as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.

In 2019, she appeared in the TV revival of Beverly Hills, 90210, recreating her classic role as Brenda.

Despite being aware of her condition, she kept it a secret from the cast following the sudden death of her co-star Luke Perry in March 2019 at the age of 52.

She made her Hollywood debut as a young star in the television series Little House on the Prairie.

The actress has lately begun podcasting, hosting her own show, Let’s Be Clear, whose most recent episode aired on July 8.

We are deeply saddened for this tragic loss. May she rest peacefully.
