Johnny Depp’s Health Crisis: Fans’ Worst Fears Are Confirmed
Johnny Depp’s relationship with his now-ex-wife Amber Heard was anything but stable.
Following numerous allegations of abuse, the two were entangled in a high-profile legal struggle. The trial was scathing, with every kinds of private issues exposed to the world.
They met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2011 and began dating shortly after Depp ended his long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis.
Depp and Heard got engaged in 2014 and married a year later.
Depp reportedly injured his hand while “smashing bottles and windows” during a furious quarrel with his wife just months into their marriage.
Heard filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Heard defamed Depp in an op-ed for The Washington Post in which she discussed domestic abuse. She made no mention of his name, but it was clear that she was referring to her spouse.
Depp rejected all of the charges against him, but Heard’s blow harmed his career. Fewer and fewer directors were interested in casting him, and his inclusion in J.K Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, drew harsh criticism. He was even let go from his legendary role as Captain Jack Sparrow in 2018.
Depp subsequently filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard, claiming that he had always been the victim of domestic abuse.
“The op-ed [Heard’s article] depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp committed domestic violence against her,” the complaint said.
“She kicked, punched, and hit me.” She also hurled heavy bottles, soda cans, blazing candles, TV remote controls, and paint thinner cans into my head and body on a regular basis, seriously injuring me.
To the joy of his countless fans, Depp has returned to work following a lengthy period of unemployment and a financial loss of millions of dollars.
When he eventually made his way back to the big screen, he received a thunderous standing ovation for seven minutes on the Jeanne Du Barry opening night at Cannes 2023. Fans yelled his name as he came down the red carpet, and one woman broke down in tears to get his attention.
Jeanne Du Barry, in which he plays the previous King of France Louis XV, is the actor’s first cinematic production following the defamation conviction.
Depp has now frightened followers with an Instagram post in which he wrote: “My dear friends, I regret to inform you that I have sustained a fractured ankle, which is quite a disappointment. Initially, it was a little hairline break, but as we traveled from Cannes to The Albert Hall, it worsened rather than healed.”
“Several medical professionals have suggested that I avoid any and all activity for the moment and so am unfortunately unable to travel at the time,” he said.
“The guys and I are deeply sorry to miss you all, but fear not, I promise an extraordinary show in Europe later, and we’ll undoubtedly give our best performance on the East Coast later this summer, making it up to those who have already purchased tickets,” he apologized to the fans who had been waiting impatiently for him in Boston, New Hampshire, and New York.
