Lindsay Lohan: From ‘Mean Girl’ to discovering ‘biggest delight’ as a new mother

Lindsay Lohan is spending her first Mother’s Day as a mother.

The 37-year-old actress and her husband, Bader Shammas, received their first child, son Luai, in July 2023.

Lohan took to Instagram on Wednesday to express her enthusiasm about returning to Dubai in time for the vacation, posting a photo of herself smiling while sitting in Luai’s nursery.

“After a busy few months with work, it’s great to be back home in time for my first Mother’s Day!” she wrote in the description of her Instagram image.

She said, “I’m loving the little things with my baby, from walks & baths to our feeding times together.”

“New parents, it may not always be easy, but just know you’ve got this!” Lohan added.

Lohan’s path to marriage and parenthood began after she left Hollywood after a string of box-office failures and a slew of widely publicized legal and substance misuse concerns.

The New York native had her career debut at the age of 12 when she played twins Hallie Parker and Annie James in the 1998 Disney film “The Parent Trap.”

Lohan then got main roles in two major Disney releases: 2003’s “Freaky Friday,” in which she acted opposite Jamie Lee Curtis as her mother, and 2004’s “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.”

However, Lohan’s appearance as naive transfer student Cady Heron in the smash 2004 comedy “Mean Girls” cemented her place in pop culture. Lohan’s performance received high praise from critics, and she was named one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars.

After coming to Los Angeles full-time in 2004, Lohan gained a reputation as a party queen. By 2005, she had become a popular target of the paparazzi, who constantly followed the teen actress as she moved from club to club and partied until the early hours of the morning.

At the same time, Lohan’s career began to suffer as her lifestyle appeared to be influencing her work habits and dependability. Lohan’s 2005 Disney film “Herbie: Fully Loaded” was halted for three days due to “exhaustion.”

Lohan was hospitalized again while filming “Georgia Rule” in 2006 due to being “overheated and exhausted,” according to her representative at the time. In a leaked letter, the CEO of the firm behind “Georgia Rule” chastised Lohan for her “various late arrivals and absences from the set.”

Lohan attended drug rehab for the first time in January 2007 while filming “I Know Who Killed Me.”

Two weeks after leaving treatment, Lohan crashed her Mercedes-Benz convertible in Santa Monica, California. She was detained and accused with DUI, cocaine possession, and driving with a suspended license.

The arrest signaled the start of Lohan’s legal troubles and substance misuse issues. By 2012, she had 20 court appearances, six rehab sessions, and six incarcerations.

During that time, Lohan lost several projects and appeared in a streak of films that tanked at the box office and received negative reviews from critics.

In 2013, Lohan appeared in the sensual thriller “The Canyons,” which was a critical and commercial disappointment. The film would be Lohan’s only big-screen appearance in ten years.

Lohan departed the United States and moved full-time to Dubai. She shifted her concentration to entrepreneurship, establishing three beach resorts in Greece between 2016 and 2018.

She told Emirates Woman in 2018 that moving to the UAE gave her “a fresh start.”

“I guess you would say it happened organically,” Lohan remarked on her move to Dubai in a June 2023 interview with Allure.

“Dubai gives me that space to have my own vision of what I need to do next,” she stated.

Lohan revealed to the magazine that she met her future husband Shammas at a restaurant in Dubai. The actress said that she and the financier had spent hours talking that night.

“And then I said to him, ‘I feel like you’re the person I am going to be with forever,'” she recalled. “I’d never been able to talk to someone like this.”

The couple’s romance went public in February 2020, when they were photographed together at a music festival in Dubai.

Lohan announced her engagement to Shammas on Instagram in November 2021. “My love.” My life. My family. My future. “@bader.shammas #love,” she captioned a post with photographs of the two of them showing off her ring.

Lohan was also preparing to resume her acting career. She told Allure that Shammas proposed to her in Utah while she was filming the 2022 Netflix romantic comedy “Falling for Christmas,” which marked Lohan’s formal return to the big screen.

Prior to the film, she starred in the MTV reality show “Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club” and had a recurring role in the second season of the British comedy “Sick Note.”

Lohan informed Allure that she married Shammas in a secret wedding in April 2022. In July of that year, she announced her marriage on Instagram, saying, “I am the luckiest woman in the world.” Not because I needed a guy, but because he discovered me and understood that I desired both happiness and grace.”

“I can’t believe this is my husband. “My life, my everything,” she said.

In March 2023, Lohan announced that she and Shammas were expecting their first child. She posted a photo of a white onesie with the words “Coming soon…” on it.

“We are blessed and excited!” Lohan wrote in the description, tagging Shammas.

During her Allure interview, Lohan recalled telling her spouse about her pregnancy.

“It was so unexciting,” she added, giggling. “I walked into the room and threw the test down. I was like, ‘Guess what?’ He says, ‘We are?’.”

“I can’t wait to see what the feeling is and what it’s like to just be a mom,” Lohan said at the time.

Lohan claimed that she began crying more regularly during her pregnancy. “Happy tears.” “That’s just who I am,” she explained. “Though now, it’s probably baby emotion.”

“It’s overwhelming,” Lohan explained. “In a good way.”

In April 2023, Lohan posted images from her baby shower in which she flaunted her baby belly.

“Good times,” she captioned the photo. “So grateful for all of the wonderful people in my life!”

In July 2023, Lohan gave birth to Luai in Dubai. According to her publicist, “Lindsay Lohan & her financier husband, Bader Shammas, welcomed an attractive, healthy son named Luai.”

“The family is over the moon in love,” the spokesperson stated.

The name Luai means “shield” or “protector” in Arabic. Dina Lohan told People magazine in August that she flew to Dubai after Luai was born, remarking that he “came two days earlier” than intended.

“God has truly blessed us all with lil Luai,” remarked Dina. I shed happy tears streaming down my cheeks as I clutched Luai. Lindsay adapted to her best part effortlessly.”

About her daughter, Dina remarked, “She was always meant to be a mother.” “Bader also embraced the role of parent with ease. They make the ideal team.

Later in same month, Lohan shared a photo of Luai’s nursery on Instagram, which she had created in association with the baby brand Nestig.

The nursery, which draws inspiration from the sea, has a white dresser and cot made of natural wood, a sailboat-shaped bookcase, and a mobile with clouds, a sun, and a plane hanging from it.

Lohan disclosed in an Allure interview that she and Shammas reside in a villa with a view of the Persian Gulf.

According to Lohan, “I feel so peaceful by the ocean,” as she told Architectural Digest. “I wanted to create a space where my little one and I could share in that feeling.”

In August, Lohan posted a mirror selfie to Instagram, flaunting her postpartum figure.

“I’m so proud of what this body has accomplished during the pregnancy and the current healing process. “The world’s greatest joy is becoming a parent.”

The actress joked that postpartum underwear has become her “OOTD [outfit of the day] lately.”

“Because I’m not a regular mom, I’m a postpartum mom,” she continued, quoting a popular line from “Mean Girls.”

In the film, Regina George’s mother, played by Amy Poehler, says, “I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.”

Since giving birth to Luai, Lohan has been juggling her work and motherhood. She recently appeared in the Netflix romantic comedy “Irish Wish,” which debuted in March.

Jamie Lee Curtis, who portrayed Lohan’s on-screen mother in “Freaky Friday,” reportedly gave her advice on how to balance being a working actor and a mother, during an interview with Allure.

“I spoke to Jamie Lee Curtis recently,” she stated. “And she was like, ‘You just bring the baby with you, and everything will be fine.’”

The majority of Lohan’s time is spent at home with Luai, she said to People in March.

She described her everyday activities as “playing with my son and spending time with him.” “Right now he just loves being outside and taking walks, so I just try to get him outside as much as I can, because he loves seeing around.”

“He is ripping my hair out now, which is the new thing,” she states. “He pulls my baby hairs too, so I have bald spots.”

In March, Lohan shared with Bustle that she is confident in her postpartum figure and doesn’t feel the need to “snap back.”

“These days, everyone is so skinny. I have the impression that everything comes full circle, therefore this is it, and it will pass. However, Lohan acknowledged that there appeared to be pressure due to the widespread use of the medication Ozempic for weight loss.

Lohan, who has previously discussed her issues with body image, clarified that her priorities are currently different.

“I was so attached to [Luai] that my last thought was going on a treadmill,” she stated to Bustle. “I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to appear ‘good’ so quickly, but you look amazing [after giving birth].”

“Give yourself time.”
