Health of Kathy Bates: Actress ‘went wild’ following ‘incurable’ diagnosis
Inspiring tales like this one serve as a gentle reminder that Hollywood superstars are just regular people like us who experience grief and go through things, even if you think they are vastly different from us.
The Academy Award-winning actress Kathy Bates discusses her condition and the difficulties she faced in her most recent conversation with Dr. Phill.
Unexpectedly, life assigned her the most difficult character she had ever had to play: a real-life fighter who had to defeat cancer a second time.
Her battle began in 2003, the year she received the heartbreaking news that she has ovarian cancer. She chose not to tell anyone about her numerous grueling surgeries and nine months of chemotherapy. She said to PEOPLE
Up until the point when her doctor informed her that she was back at the beginning, her strong will enabled her conquer the circumstance and remain cancer-free. She had cancer once more. She questioned if doing so would entail starting over on the same painful path.

She wasn’t that shocked when she found out she had breast cancer since, as she puts it, “breast cancer runs like a river in my family.” She decided to get a double mastectomy after discussing this with her followers in an effort to stop it from spreading further.
This time, she made the decision to use her misfortune as motivation for other women. This courageous woman didn’t lose her lively personality along the road; on one occasion, she even made a joke, stating, “I don’t miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry’s Law,” and thanked her admirers for their unwavering support throughout her difficult times.
We are fortunate that she tried to replace the dish of sour green tomatoes that her life had served her with one of our Fried Green Tomatoes.
Although Kathy Bates is currently cancer-free, the disease left her with lymphedema, a condition that affects about 30% of breast cancer survivors and is not treatable. She had her lymph nodes removed, which is why she has it. Unfortunately, she is uncomfortable due to the pain and swelling she is experiencing.

Her entire experience led her to discuss her illness in public with the intention of encouraging other women to get frequent checkups and to realize they are not fighting this battle alone. Additionally, Bates joined the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) as an ambassador.
“I’m thankful that my struggles have given me a goal. It’s funny how it works.
Here is an interview with her where she discusses how it feels to face the fights she has battled in a frank manner.
