Expert says it’s a good sign when Kate Middleton and William shared a naughty moment in front of the world.
The symbolically second coronation of the King and Queen of Britain took place in Scotland on Wednesday, July 5.
The king was presented with the Honors of Scotland, which include the crown, scepter, and sword of state, at the service at Edinburgh’s St. Giles’ Cathedral. This ceremony often referred to as “a second coronation” is a symbolic event rather than an actual coronation in the traditional sense.
The fabled Crown of Scotland, crafted in 1540 by Scotland’s royal goldsmith John Mosman, is one of the oldest surviving crowns in Europe and the oldest in Britain. It was given to King Charles. This crown was designed for James V, who wore it at Queen Mary of Guise’s coronation in 1540. Mary Queen of Scots, however, was the first monarch to wear it at a formal coronation.
The Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, Scotland’s senior peer, handed the crown to Charles on a cushion and stated, “By the symbol of this crown, we pledge our loyalty, entrusting you to reign as our king in the service of all your people.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales attended as anticipated, and Kate Middleton was commended for her choice of clothing. Most of the acclaim was for her repeated wearing of the magnificent electric blue wool costume by Catherine Walker & Co., which many think should become a trend other royals and celebrities should follow.
According to Newsweek, Kate altered the outfit she had worn to the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey the year before by “accessorizing the look with a beret style asymmetrical hat, featuring a sculpted element echoing a feather.”
According to celebrity stylist and royal fashion authority Miranda Holder, who spoke to Newsweek, “Kate stunned in patriotic Scottish blue at the Coronation today, but while the vivid color of her Catherine Walker ensemble made her stand out from the crowd, it was actually an understated choice, being a repeat item she had worn before.” Holder said that given Kate Middleton and Prince William’s concern for the environment, the coat-dress seemed appropriate.
In today’s economically challenging environment, Kate “strikes a careful balance between looking elegant and ‘royal,’ without being too ostentatious or ‘showy,'” she said. “Kate is conscious of sustainability in fashion, and is of course a keen advocate of her husband’s Earth shot cause.”
Kate was observed making a ‘naughty’ gesture—a small bum pat, when she and William returned to Charles’ official Scottish house in the procession. Kate and William are acknowledged as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland.
The ability to mutter may feel comforting for them both at events like this, body language expert Judi James said about the difference between how William and Kate communicate with each other and how Charles and Camilla converse. “The King and Queen are more like a ventriloquist act, both muttering asides to the other in a way that doesn’t look like real conversation,” James told the Mirror.
James said, “Kate even did her now trademark bum-pat gesture, and the couple tends to make eye contact and smile at each other as they speak.”
Specifically on the red carpet for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), when she and William had a second cheeky moment and she patted his royal bottom. Kate Middleton has been spotted doing the bum-pat gesture before.
