The model who is Don McLean’s girlfriend and has been his partner for five years is 48 years his junior.
It is amazing how much of an impact a single song can have on a person’s career and the entire music business. Don McLean, a musician, was already well-known when American Pie was created. All of a sudden, everyone became fixated on the music as they labored to decipher its hidden meaning. McLean himself refused to interpret the verses and claimed that the song’s structure, not its lyrics, was what made it so unique.
Many people think it was intended as a tribute to musician Buddy Holly, who died in the plane accident near Clear Lake, Iowa, along with rock and roll legends Ritchie Valens and J.P. “the Big Bopper” Richardson. The line about “the day the music died” is thought to have been inspired by Holly, who was McLean’s favorite musician.
The musician lost his father, whom he regarded as the most significant person in his life, two years later, when he was 15 years old. He admitted that he cried for two years because he struggled to come to terms with the loss.
When McLean was only 24 years old, he wrote American Pie. The song, which is widely regarded as one of the best of all time, turns 50 this year. The Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts ranked the song fifth out of the Top 365 Songs of the 20th Century. Respect, This Land Is Your Land, White Christmas, and Over the Rainbow made up the remaining top 5 tracks.
McLean described the song’s origins by saying, “The initial part of the song was born in one piece. I penned it while recalling the day I read the newspaper and the story about my favorite artist’s passing. That’s what got me going.
His 2nd album, American Pie, which was released on May 26, 1971, contained it.
McLean described the idea behind American Pie as “I was conscious of the fact that I was trying to create a rock’n’roll dream sequence.” However, it was much more than rock and roll. It dealt with an America that was rupturing at the seams.
“I wanted to write a song that was uniquely American, unlike This Land Is Your Land or America the Beautiful. Starting with Buddy Holly, I wanted to connect with the aspects of America that meant the most to me. I have to tell you that nobody cared about Buddy when I created this song.
Nearly 2015, the original handwritten lyrics went up for auction and brought nearly $1.2 million.
“American Pie has a unique history and biography, and each time it has done so, it has highlighted my own skill as a vocalist and lyricist. And because of its success, I’ve been able to promote my other songs,” McLean told Songwriter Universe.
“As a result, my songs like If We Try, Crossroads, Winterwood, Castles in the Air, Wonderful Baby, and Dreidel became well-known. Of course, American Pie was much more popular than any of those songs, but many of my other songs are still well-known. Therefore, that was always a nice side effect of American Pie’s success.
This year, McLean received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The celebrity was married twice and has a son and a daughter as a result of his two unions. While he gets along well with his son, he doesn’t get along well with his daughter. In fact, he admitted in a Daily Mail interview that he had financially isolated and disinherited his daughter.
He currently in a relationship with model Paris Dylan, who is 48 years his junior and has been his partner for five years. When she was hired to manage his social media in 2016, they first came into contact.
“Love is the most valuable possession you can have. Someone must be loved by you. What a weight hatred is. The entire thing is a waste of time. I adore both my kids and my partner. I’m obsessed with her,” he admitted to People. “When I sing a lot of my songs, I often think about her. But whenever I sing [And I Love You So], I particularly think of her.
“I’m honored to have her as a girlfriend and a partner, and we have no plans to ever break up,” he continued. As long as we can, we’ll stick together and ride this pony.
Dylan has thousands of fans on social media, where she is well-known. She identifies as a “60s music lover” and frequently posts images of her ponies.
She is the one, he claims, and he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.
We only want the best for them.
