The comical career and sad life of Marty Feldman: His pupils caused people to be “frightened,” so he was forbidden from watching television:

Marty Feldman was a comic talent who was never afraid to make fun of himself. The 1974 Mel Brooks film Young Frankenstein, in which the name of the character he played, Igor, was pronounced “Eye-Gor,” was a huge triumph for the British actor.

Feldman unfortunately had Graves’ disease, a thyroid eye disorder that causes protruding and crooked eyes.

Feldman liked making fun of himself, but he struggled with his eye condition. His own employer even made fun of him because he had been harassed as a young man as he entered the entertainment business. But Feldman swore never to let it affect him and was confident that his differences wouldn’t prevent him from honing his acting and writing skills.

Many Hollywood stars have had distinctive faces over the years, some as a result of various diseases or disabilities. Consider Michael Berryman, who is best known for his performance in The Hills Have Eyes and has become somewhat of a role model for people who want to work in acting.

The scripts for The Army Game and the farce Bootsie and Snudge were co-written by Feldman and Berry Took. Additionally, they provided 3 episodes to the BBC comedy series Round the Horne, which peaked in the middle of the 1960s with over 15 million viewers per episode.

As has already been stated, Feldman didn’t really care what other people thought of his looks. However, it became a problem when he began working at The Frost Report.

Rumor has it that comedian and chat show host David Frost didn’t like Marty’s appearance. Given his belief that “the eyes will fear people,” he even vowed to depart if he got more airtime.

In 1967, Feldman decided to attempt his luck in the spotlight rather than remain in the background. He was a co-star in At Last the 1948 Show alongside John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and Tim Brooke-Taylor. Frost believed it was an error to have Feldman speak to the camera, but the show was very popular. Actually, that software gave rise to Monty Python.

Four years later, Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks gave Feldman his major break in the United States by casting him in Young Frankenstein.
