Do you recall Phoebe Cates? The star of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” left acting because of this

One of the most well-known bikini scenes was captured by Phoebe Cates. Cates became an icon after posing topless by the pool in the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High. It was described as “the most unforgettable bikini-drop in cinema history” by Rolling Stone magazine.
Acting seems to run in Cates’ family because she was born into a family of actresses and filmmakers.

She even won a scholarship to the School of American Ballet when she was a youngster and enjoyed dancing, but she was forced to stop at the age of 14 owing to a knee injury.
She swapped off her love of dancing for modelling at the moment. After appearing in numerous teen-targeted periodicals, Cates became a sensation among teenagers. She appeared on the cover of Seventeen magazine 4 times, among other publications. But eventually, she decided she’d had enough and switched to acting in movies.

“That was always the exact same thing. I started doing it just for the money after a time,” she remarked of her modelling career.
Cates first met her agent for movies at a party at New York’s renowned Studio 54, and she later received acting instruction from Robert Ravan, who founded The Actors’ Circle in the city.
“I simply understood that I did not want to attend college. And that if I could acquire a few movies or anything, that would be a terrific way to get out of college. Seriously. She said as much to The Daily Item in 1985.
Cates made her acting debut in the 1982 picture Paradise as Sarah. She went on to star in additional movies like Experienced and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
“In this business, a woman must be willing to strip in order to succeed. Why not show off your good figure if you have one? she asked, referring to the famous scene.

At the time of its debut, Fast Times at Ridgemont High included well-known actors in the making, such as Eric Stoltz, Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Forest Whitaker.
So, because we all were so young when we made it, it was a funny thing. Jennifer Jason Leigh told The Daily News, “And then it came out and it was this tremendous smash, where you’d go to the theatre and people would recite the lines with it, and people had obviously seen the movie over and over again.”
Cates’ career flourished, but she ultimately made the decision to give acting up.

She and her husband Kevin Kline, a renowned theatrical actor who is 16 years her senior, agreed to exchange performing engagements so that her children would never be without a parent, and this decision was heavily influenced by becoming a mother.

For 33 years, Cates & Kline have been wed. The pair previously discussed the secret to a long-lasting marriage on the occasion of their 27th wedding anniversary. According to Kline, it all comes down to taking care of it.
The former teen actress and model now runs a business. She and her family live in Manhattan’s Upper East Side at 1283 Madison Avenue, where her boutique Blue Tree is situated.
