Burn victim who spent years staying at home now runs his own bakery because “I am more than how I look”
Sometimes life isn’t fair. It seems like there is no way out when we are faced with challenges that are too great for us to handle frequently, but God always finds a way to remind us that not everything is lost.
The majority of Ngo Quy Hai’s 27 years have been spent living in secrecy from the outside world. He has been aware of the looks from everyone in his immediate vicinity because he is a burn survivor.
Hai, a native of Vietnam, was only a young child when the terrible occurrence occurred. He accidently fell into an open wood stove while he was pushing a baby walker to the kitchen. He sustained more than severe burns, but he pulled through.
Baby walkers were widely used back then, and people were unaware of their potential hazard, according to Hai.
He was taken in an emergency and spent two long years at Children’s Hospital 1 in Saigon.
He underwent a series of surgeries, but in the end, his torso and face were still covered in scars. Most importantly, he experienced mental anguish as a result of both the event itself and the bullying he experienced from other kids over his appearance.
He said, “I felt lonely growing up and didn’t have many friends. “I felt socially excluded. I experienced mockery and humiliation while I looked for employment. For over two years, I didn’t leave my house at one time.
It was difficult to live alone. After falling behind in his studies and feeling heartbroken, Hai met a friend who shared his feelings.
Hai stated of his new companion, “Sometimes I think it was fate that brought us together. Since we were very little, we have played together and have shared many joys and tragedies, including the despair that no one else wanted to spend time with us.
Hai was able to muster the confidence to pursue his ambition of opening a bakery with the aid of a buddy who is disabled. In reality, the situation that led to his friend being expelled from a posh bakery he had long wanted to visit is what gave rise to this dream.
“They didn’t pay attention to our explanation, and since we were quite poor, our clothes weren’t as fancy as some people’s. They drove us away, said Hai. “It was embarrassing. However, that event is what has shaped who I am now. It helped me realize what I wanted to do in my heart. I was planning to start my own bakery so I could make wonderful and lovely cakes and provide wholesome food to everyone, regardless of their financial status. I would welcome everyone without prejudice.
His family members were all quite encouraging when he told them about his dream. Hai was then prepared to face the world after spending years in seclusion by enrolling in a hospitality course at a school in Hanoi.
He claims that starting a bakery was the best thing to ever happen to him because it boosted his confidence.
He remarked, “It was nice to see all of the smiling faces.” “I frequently see kids selling lottery tickets on the street, and I always welcome them in for a piece of cake. We are unaware of the struggles endured by others. Be considerate.
“Now, my goal is to support those going through difficult times like the ones I did. Making a change in society is only possible through giving back.
Hai’s story is very motivating because it serves as a reminder to always have faith in our talents and to try to accept who we are as we are.
