Willie Nelson’s beloved little sister has died
One of the oldest music giants still alive is Willie Nelson, who is 88 years old. Bobbie, his sister, passed away at 91 years old. The grandparents of Bobbie and her brother raised them both. Bobbie was born 2 years before her brother.
“Might sound cliché, but the truth is we were dirt poor in worldly stuff, but we were rich in love,” Willie wrote in his biography in 2015.
Bobbie always traversed the world with her brother and inherited her interest in music from her grandparents.
According to Bobbie, “Willie and I had always lived with Dad’s parents, Alfred and Nancy Nelson,” she said in the book “Me & Sister Bobbie: True Tales of the Family Band. I was never informed why.
Our grandparents were polite and considerate, so I liked the arrangement. However, the fact that my parents resided next door to us also gave me comfort. Every day, Willie and I saw them. They complete my world, my parents. I was so terrified to witness that world crumble.
At age 5, Bobbie began playing at a gospel convention in Texas after learning how to play the guitar.
She was going to be a star, that much was certain. To help her achieve her goal, her grandparents gave her a piano.
With the assistance of their grandma, she and her brother Willie began singing.
My grandmother was an excellent instructor, Bobbie remarked.
On one of Bobbie’s trips, she met Bud Fletcher, the man who would become her husband. Bud, who had just arrived in the country after serving in World War II, was 22 and Bobbie was 16 years old.
When I got married, Bud set about forming our first band, Bobbie said to the Austin Chronicle in 2008. Willie accompanied us on all of our dates since he was in love with her. He also enjoyed dancing and drinking beer, and he was familiar with every bar in West and Waco, places Willie and I had never gone. For me, it was a major beginning.
In 1955, their marriage tragically came to an end, and Bobbie was forced to give up custody of their three kids, Randy, Michael, and Freddy.
Her health suffered as a result of everything, and she was forced to check into a hospital. In order to be by her side constantly, Willie had to relocate to Fort Worth.
A few years later, she was successful in getting custody of her kids back, and she and her brother Willie went on a global tour.
Willie and Bobbie collaborated on the piano recordings for The Troublemaker, Shotgun Willie, and Phases & Stages.
The worst thing that ever happened to Bobbie was when she lost Randy in a car accident and Michael to leukaemia.
On March 10, 2022, Bobbie passed away at the age of 91 and was reunited with her children.
Let peace be granted to her soul. We offer our sympathies to her family and close friends.
